Muscat: According to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the total number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) registered with the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada) at the end of June 2021 was 54,726, up from 44,448 in the same period in 2020, a 23.1 percent increase (NCSI).
Muscat topped the list with 18,460 SMEs, representing a 23.2 percent increase, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah, which increased by 23% to 8,642, Al Dakhiliyah, which increased by 20.2 percent to 6,756, and Dhofar, which increased by 23% to 4,586.
The number of SMEs in the Governorate of South Al-Batinah went up by 27 per cent to reach 4,189. Other governorates also saw a rise in the number of small and medium sized enterprises SMEs to reach 3,272. The figure for Omani SMEs is expected to rise by at least per cent over the next year.
